Tyler Thompson is a junior photography major at SUNY Purchase College. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved around a lot as a child before he settled in Baldwin Long Island. In high school Tyler was in stage crew all four years but didn’t take a photography class until his senior year. He got his first camera for Christmas and started taking pictures of his friends as a hobby. Tyler got accepted to purchase of the Design Technology program and found his passion for photography through taking pictures of some of the shows. The people in the DT major would push him to switch to the photography major but he didn’t think about it until one of his friends from the DT program passed away. They were one of the main people that believed in him and his work so during covid he switched to the photography program, and he used his family, friends and the people he has lost along the way as his motivation to follow his dreams.


Tyler has taken his love for music and used it to his advantage. He recently started working a lot with the artists, bands, and other musicians he interacts with on and off campus. Tyler does a lot of behind the scenes photography for music videos and from time to time take pictures of their performances. He likes capturing and showing off everything from the people to the fashion to the all-around energy of the music scenes.
