Naliyah Salahuddin - Scholars - The Gordon Parks Foundation

Naliyah Salahuddin is a mixed-media artist specializing in painting, sewing, and textiles as storytelling mediums. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, she grew up in a culturally diverse family with strong ties to their heritage, rooted in art and shared traditions. Her family’s passion for Black arts introduced her to a vibrant community of Black artists and educators, where she explored various disciplines, including dance, theater, and visual arts, laying the foundation for her creative journey. Currently a student at the New World School of the Arts, Salahuddin creates work inspired by her deep connection to family. She blends painting and textiles to craft vibrant compositions that celebrate the warmth of shared moments and the complexities of familial bonds. Fabric, central to her practice, is meditative and intentional, honoring values passed down through generations. Salahuddin’s work invites viewers to reflect on the universal threads of connection and celebrate their stories.
