M. A. Audu is a queer/trans photographer born in Jos, Nigeria and living in New York City. Their work intends to move away from the ‘cliché’ discourse around Black art and artists; the specific way of consuming Black/queer art which assumes that the marginal artist must explore their identity. Audu is motivated by others sharing their identities who lack the means to capture it. Marginalized people are always under a lens, so Audu’s work attempts to return it to them. They continue to work with their subjects to illustrate the importance of simply existing.
