Description

Gabriella Kirikian, The Gordon Parks Foundation's 2019 MillbrookEngage Intern, curated and installed an exhibition of photographs for her senior Culminating Experience project. The purpose of this program is to provide Millbrook seniors with an opportunity to develop their intellectual independence in a particular discipline or disciplines by engaging in an authentic intellectual project as part of the culmination of their academic career. Gordon Parks: The Eye that Feels is a selection of 15 Gordon Parks photographs that are "meant to spark a visceral reaction within the viewer," Kirikian's curatorial statement explains. "This exhibition showcases the true power that lies within a single frame and the harsh realities of American life and culture during the civil rights movement. I am fascinated by [Parks'] ability to create such purposeful work while maintaining his voice as an artist." The exhibition is on view for Millbrook's students and staff in Flagler Memorial Chapel through March 6 with a reception on January 24 from 5-7 PM.
