Craig White is a junior photography major at Purchase College, SUNY. Raised between Long Island and Harlem, New York, the urban landscape has shaped his viewpoint of the world. Through its constantly changing environments, the city of New York and its outskirts provide a framework of concepts suitable for documentation and artistic interpretation. Within the work, public space serves as both a carefully manicured reflection of society and as an archetype filled with drama and emotion. In an effort to appeal to the senses through photography, many of the moments documented are carefully chosen to make a clear distinction between concept and the everyday moment. With subject matter including abstract forms of city surfaces, urban and institutional landscapes, and portraits of young people further emphasizing the generational gap, he creates documentation fitting for today.
