Alexander Soros graduated from New York University in 2009 with a BA in history and is currently pursuing a doctorate in modern European history at the University of California, Berkeley. Alex is currently at work on his PhD thesis work of history and philosophy entitled Jewish Dionysus: Heine, Nietzsche and the Politics of Literature. Alex is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and the Humanities at Bard College, an Honorary Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study at Central European University in Budapest, and a Visiting Fellow at the Institute Für Die Wissenschaften Vom Menschen (IWM) in Vienna.
Mr. Soros is the Founding Chair of Bend the Arc Jewish Action, an organization championing a progressive domestic agenda focused on inclusion and equality, and sits on the boards of the Open Society Foundations, International Crisis Group, Global Witness, Libraries Without Borders, Central European University and The Gordon Parks Foundation among other organizations. His writing has appeared in Reuters, The Guardian, Politico, Thomson Reuters Foundation, The Miami Herald and The Sun-Sentinel.
Mr. Soros is the founder of The Alexander Soros Foundation (ASF), an organization promoting civil rights, social justice and education by making grants to cutting-edge organizations in the United States and abroad. In addition to supporting over a dozen grantees operating across six continents, ASF gives out an annual award to activists working at the nexus of environmentalism and human rights.
