Toni Parks-Parsons (1940-2015) was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was the elder daughter of Gordon Parks and Sally Parks and sister to Gordon Parks, Jr. and David Parks. Parks-Parsons was a photographer, artist, and musician. As a teenager, she studied piano with Vivian Dixon, the wife of the famed composer/conductor Dean Dixon. Her professional career as a visual artist began in 1990 with photographs she took during the filming of Gordon Parks’ ballet Martin. She was a member of Kamoinge, a collective of African American photographers based in New York. Throughout her career she exhibited in several notable venues, including, among others, the Dallas Museum of Art, Irving Art Center in Texas, Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
